REMINDER THIS SUNDAY – SPRING HIKE – APRIL 15th
We’re partnering up with the San Diego County Democrats for Environmental Action club to host a spring hike. All hikers of all levels are welcome and it’s free.

We’ll meet up at San Elijo Hills Park in San Marcos before heading up the Copper Creek Falls Trail. This will be an easy to moderate, out-and-back hike of about 3.4 miles with elevation gain of 229 feet. Our trail will take us over a hill and into a ravine where the remains of an old dam and mine shafts are reminders of what was once one of the nation’s largest copper mines during the early 20th century, supporting the war effort during World War I. Nearby are two small waterfalls. Along the way we’ll see blooming wildflowers and take in vistas of coastal North County’s rolling hills. Non-members are welcome; all hikers will be required to sign a waiver form. Kids are also welcome, but dogs are not allowed on this trail. Please wear good hiking shoes and bring along a reusable water bottle. After the hike, join us for casual lunch and a few cold ones at Shane’s Pizza and Pints, a nearby local favorite.

Our guest speaker will be John Mattes. He is an investigative journalist who has won 5 Emmys, one Golden Mike award, one Edward R Murrow award and 10 press club awards for exposing fraud and corruption in government. Mattes holds an advanced degree in Communication Research from the University of Wisconsin and a law degree from the University of Miami. Before working for Fox, he served as a County Supervisor and city council member in Madison, Wisconsin and practiced law in Miami, Florida focusing on Public Policy Investigation.
