Greetings Torrey Pines Dems & Friends,
Hopefully you’re enjoying our warm summer weather and spending time outdoors.
SD COUNTY BOS D3 ENDORSEMENT
At our June meeting, our club members voted to endorse Terra Lawson-Remer for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors District 3. As our endorsed candidate, please consider volunteering and/or donating to her campaign. This race is critical and our support is critical to the success of Terra’s election. Please refer to her website for additional information. Our club has one vote to endorse at the North Area Caucus meeting in August. Wayne Dernetz will be voting on behalf of our club for Terra.
E-BOARD UPDATE
We’re excited to announce that Roya Golchoobian is now V-P of Programs and will have a vote on our E-Board business. Welcome to Jim Smith to our E-Board as our Chair of Endorsements.
We are also grateful that Kristi Becker served on our E-Board as the past V-P of Endorsements. Kristi facilitated the endorsement process these past two years flawlessly! Thank you Kristi!
CA DEMOCRATIC PARTY PRE-ENDORSEMENT CONFERENCE
Our club has enough members to send 2 representatives to the California Democratic Party pre-endorsement conference in October 2019. We selected Diana Aguirre and Deborah Currier to serve as our club representatives.
SEEKING NEW LOGO
We’d like a new logo. Any members that are creative willing to submit some ideas? We’d like this logo to be used on a banner. Email Diana with your ideas before the August 3rd party.
FUTURE ENDORSEMENTS – OCTOBER 2019
Our club will be endorsing for San Diego Mayor, San Diego City Council District 1 and San Diego City Attorney. If you’d like to recommend any additional endorsements for this meeting, please email Jim Smith.
REMINDER: WE ARE NOT HAVING A CLUB MEETING IN THE MONTH OF JULY.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
GUN SHOW BAN IN JEOPARDY
The San Diego Gun Owner’s Association (supported by the NRA) has filed a lawsuit against the Fair Board challenging the gun show ban. A judge has issued a temporary injunction and the GUN SHOW BAN MAY BE OVERTURNED!
The Fair Board is holding a special meeting on Tuesday, July 16th. As before, they will be counting faces on both sides of the aisle and we all need to show up in our ORANGE T-SHIRTS and let our Fair Board know that we are counting on them to STAY THE COURSE and DO THE RIGHT THING by FIGHTING THIS LAWSUIT! Otherwise, there is a real possibility that we will once again be hosting gun shows five times a year in our own backyard.
Here are the details:
WHEN
Tuesday, July 16, 2019 The meeting starts at 1:30pm, but please arrive 30 MINUTES EARLY at 1pm for a seat.
WHERE
The Del Mar Fairgrounds located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd.
The meeting will be held in the 22nd Agricultural District Board Room. Go to the southern end of the Fairground Buildings. There is FREE PARKING in the main Fairground parking lot.

JULY 19th: Rally: Rep. Scott Peters – support the Green New Deal!
Join SanDiego350 for a rally EVERY FRIDAY to call on Rep. Scott Peters (CA-53) to cosponsor the Green New Deal and commit to a just and equitable transition to a world free from fossil fuels, and support green jobs. We are also demanding that he pledge to refuse campaign contributions from fossil fuel companies and that he host a town hall meeting on climate change!
Although Reps Levin, Vargas — and most recently Davis, have cosponsored the Green New Deal, Rep. Peters has yet to take action.
So, as part of the Raise the Alarm Campaign, SanDiego350 is leading rallies outside his office every single Friday, beginning June 28, until he does.
WHERE: meet in front of building on Executive Drive, parking will be in the lot in back of building.
NOTE: No rally July 5 as Peters’ office is closed.

“The Fight for LGBT Rights” will be an opportunity for you to socialize with supporters of LGBT rights while learning about efforts (both inside and outside the courtroom) to protect and defend transgender community members. Our featured speakers are:
Melissa DeLeon, Equity Staff Attorney for the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties, will provide a briefing on groundbreaking litigation to protect the rights of transgender individuals to have equal access to public facilities.
Deja Cabrera, Transgender Services Coordinator for the San Diego LGBT Community Center, will provide an overview of The Center’s advocacy work and efforts to support a strong and healthy transgender community in San Diego.
As with all ACLU NextGen events, we will reserve plenty of time for networking and socializing. Expect to leave this event feeling informed, energized and ready to take action!
