Torrey Pines Democratic Club

Newsletter March 2020

Dear Torrey Pines Dems & Friends,

First welcome to our newest members:
Marybeth Norgren
Amy Caterina
Pratima Gupta (newly elected to the San Diego Democratice Cental Committee for the 78th District)

Our E-Board has made the decision to postpone our March 25th monthly meeting after receiving direction from the San Diego County Democratic Party to cancel meetings for the month of March.

Keep washing your hands and keep your social distances.

As always, thank you for your support.
Diana

Wednesday, March 11th – NEVER AGAIN CA

PLEASE JOIN US ON: Tuesday, March 10, 6pm, Solana Beach City Hall, 635 Highway 101, Solana Beach FOR AN HOUR!
Free parking behind the City Hall Building. Wear Orange.

WHY: SB City Council will move our resolution to first on the agenda if they see a room packed with citizens supporting this resolution. First on the agenda means prime remote viewing time by Solana Beach citizens about this new danger to everyone and this major threat to law enforcement’s ability to solve crimes.

ASK: To support SB Resolution asking Fair board to prohibit the sale of ghost guns.   Historically the previous Fair board President did not allow the sale of untraceable guns/parts; this board needs to do the same!

Since Crossroads of the West obtained a court-ordered  injunction requiring the board to allow gun shows, they have also increased the sales/vendors selling ghost guns. These guns require NO background checks,  NO age limit to purchase, NO certificate of firearm training; and NO taxes.   These “ kits” to assemble guns look like guns, shoot like  guns and kill like guns.  THEY MUST BE REGULATED LIKE GUNS.  The kit can be bought in 3 minutes and assembled in 15 minutes. It’s happening now: The shooting of a student in Santa Clarita, California in November 2019 was by a 16 year old boy with a ghost gun! ATF says that in only three months, 30% of guns found at crimes in CA. are ghost guns.

If you let us know you are coming, we will save you a seat.  Two informational articles/video are below.  Never seen a ghost gun?   This is no toy, craft or hobby as the NRA wants you to believe. You will see for yourself on Tuesday when we show the City Council just how easy it is to assemble this gun “kit” .

Governor Gavin Newsom has issued an updated policy on the global health crisis. The press release is available here.

Club meetings are viewed as non-essential gatherings, and should be postponed.

“Changing our actions for a short period of time will save the life of one or more people you know,” said Governor Newsom. “That’s the choice before us. Each of us has extraordinary power to slow the spread of this disease. Not holding that concert or community event can have cascading effects — saving dozens of lives and preserving critical health care resources that your family may need a month from now. The people in our lives who are most at risk – seniors and those with underlying health conditions — are depending on all of us to make the right choice.”

The full policy can be found here.
