We had a great club meeting last week, with Solana Beach Mayor Lesa Heebner presenting eye-opening insights on addressing affordable housing challenges in our local area. TPDC Club President Dwight Worden also provided a brief summary of the May 23rd public webinar which featured experts discussing the ongoing concerns at the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS). Lesa Heebner has lived in Solana Beach for 47 years. She appreciates the natural beauty of its coastal setting, eclectic style and small town quality of life.
Before her election to City Council in 2004, Heebner led the successful grassroots effort to create the Coastal Rail Trail design we enjoy today.
During her time on City Council, Heebner has helped to build numerous public infrastructure improvements that enhance livability, mobility, climate goals and housing options. Additionally, she was on the Councils that enacted the first single-use plastic bag ban in San Diego County and launched the first Community Choice Energy program in the County.
She has served for 12 years as the primary Board member on SANDAG, three as Chair of the SANDAG Regional Planning Committee and is currently Second Vice Chair of the SANDAG Board. She has served on the North County Transit District (NCTD) Board, and the San Dieguito River Valley JPA as well as various Council Committees.
Heebner’s business career began in finance. Later, she developed a successful culinary business that featured her talents as an author, TV chef, professional speaker, and as a nationally known kitchen designer.
Heebner graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a BA in History, and Minors in Economics and Communications. She lives with her husband of 37 years, Don Davis, and their Maine Coon cat Scout.
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES SEEKING ENDORSEMENTS FOR THE MARCH 5, 2024, CALIFORNIA PRIMARY ELECTION
NOTICE TO POTENTIAL PRIMARY CANDIDATES AND TORREY PINES DEMOCRATIC CLUB MEMBERS
The campaign for nominations in the March 5, 2024, California Primary Election will be underway sometime this Fall. Although the nomination filing period under California’s Election Code does not close until mid-December, most candidates seeking nomination will announce their candidacy well in advance and begin their search for supporters and endorsements soon after the Labor Day holiday, which falls this year on September 4th.
Accordingly, the Torrey Pines Democratic Executive Board has determined that consideration of endorsements for the March 2024 primary will be conducted at the September 28th, and October 27th, 2023, regular Club meetings. Any endorsement considerations after October 27th will be at the sole discretion of the Club.
All candidates seeking an endorsement or rating from the Club will be required to complete and submit the Club’s Endorsement Questionnaire in advance of the endorsement hearing and vote of Club members.
