Dear Club Members and Friends,
We had a great club meeting in May. Thank you to our special guests from the College Democrats at UC San Diego, including their club President Calli Tullis and club Vice President Sunjay Muralitharan. Their passion for Democratic activism was inspiring. Their priorities in the coming months will continue to include focus on voter registration and Get Out The Vote campaigns, which are clearly critical for the young and diverse student body, many of whom may be voting for the first time. They are also focusing on continuing to grow club membership, which has already increased by 300% in the past year, as well as expanding their club service opportunities and developing their alumni group. We look forward to continuing our support for their efforts.
Thank you also to Janette Shelton (our Club Membership Secretary) for the information that she provided on our County Committee for Persons with Disabilities, of which she is a member. It is the policy of our County to take action to identify needs and problems of persons with disabilities in the County that are affected by public policy decisions, and furthermore, to safeguard against discrimination and prejudice on the basis of disability. As an example of one of their successful initiatives, Janette described the Blue Envelope Program. Community members diagnosed with a condition or disability such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, dementia, anxiety or other conditions that might require additional accommodations or awareness during a law enforcement interaction can display the Blue Envelope logo or present a Blue Envelope upon contact with law enforcement or other community service personnel. The Blue Envelope-branded products can contain the individual’s identification, contact information or pertinent vehicle operating documents such as the vehicle registration and proof of insurance.
Each San Diego County supervisor has two appointees- one with a disability and one without. District 3 still needs a second person but there are openings in every district. There are only 5 of 11 CPD board members seated at this point. There are over 100 boards total and many need members. The first link below is for the overall boards, the second is to the CPD committee, and the third is the application information.

Dear Club Members and Friends,
Please join us this month for our Club meeting on Thursday, May 23rd at 6:00pm (via Zoom). Our program this month will feature discussions with local leaders from the College Democrats at UC San Diego. This will be a great opportunity to hear updates on the political perspectives from our young Democratic colleagues as the November election approaches, and we can also learn about potential opportunities to assist them in their efforts.
Our program will also include a short presentation from Janette Shelton (our Club Membership Secretary) who is also part of our County Committee for Persons with Disabilities. It is the policy of our County to take action to identify needs and problems of persons with disabilities in the County that are affected by public policy decisions, and furthermore, to safeguard against discrimination and prejudice on the basis of disability. Each County supervisor has two appointees- one with a disability and one without. District 3 still needs a second person but there are openings in every district.
